Psychosocial Assessment: Emotional Disability (ED) Eligibility and Educationally Related Mental Health Services (ERMHS)
Studies show an increased prevalence of children and adolescents experiencing mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated the already rising referrals for social and emotional assessments to determine whether students have a need for educationally related mental health services (ERMHS). In order to gain a better understanding of a student's level of mental health functioning, and the degree to which it is impacting learning, we need to conduct an assessment that examines social, emotional, and behavioral capacities. This training will provide a review various means of assessing a student's mental health in order to make eligibility considerations and to determine whether school-based mental health services are warranted. The training will review assessment tools from rating scales to projective measures using a structured, systematic format, in order to gather a broad range of data for decision making. By the end of the presentation, participants will feel more comfortable conducting emotional disability (ED) and ERMHS evaluations.
