Introducing the Launch of Our Updated Website

Due to the global pandemic of Covid-19, the Diagnostic Center of Northern California is currently not providing in-person testing at the center or in the field. We are, however, continuing to accept any referral applications. All referral applications for future assessment are evaluated on a case by case basis. At this time, the Diagnostic Center, Northern California is able to provide virtual Consultation Assessments.
Consultation Assessments are for students who have been formally referred to and accepted by DCN.
While we are not currently providing in-person testing, we can provide "Consultation Assessments" where our team may review documents & evaluations, conduct virtual observations & interviews and in certain cases, collect data via questionnaires and non-standardized tools. Our teams will then provide a summary of recommendations based upon the gathered information and conduct a consultation assessment conference.
Once DCN is open for in-person assessments, our teams can then continue the assessment process by conducting in-person standardized testing (as needed), providing the comprehensive report and scheduling a final conference.
Consultations Assessments (CA):
- District completes Referral Form and submits documentation
- As needed DCN will:
- schedules virtual school observations
- conducts school & home interviews
- reviews school & medical Records
- collects school & home questionnaires
- DCN reviews the data collected and creates a consultation assessment report
- DCN schedules consultation assessment conference
- DCN follows-up with school team and family as needed

Trainings & Resources
We are excited to re-introduce DCN's "Ask-A-Specialist" feature, now in a "LIVE!" format. Every week we will have 2 scheduled hours where you can join us on this zoom link and ask questions or simply listen to conversations based on the topics below.
Ask-A-Specialist LIVE! will take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:00pm to 4:00pm (excluding holidays). If you would like to submit a question in advance, please send an email to email@example.com, and be sure to:
- include the Date and Topic in the Subject Area
- leave out any identifying student information (e.g. Name, DOB, gender, etc.)
We will do our best to address the questions submitted in advance or contact you afterwards if needed.

Goal Writing Series - Spring 2021
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Winter Goal Symposium this past December. An accessible recording will be available soon on the new DCN website.
For those who were unable to attend or would like to review the information provided in December, please join us for our updated Spring 2021 Goal Writing Series. Based on participant feedback, the Spring 2021 Goal Writing Series will include an additional workshop to discuss questions and cases shared anonymously by participants. Additionally, Break-Out Sessions will be scheduled at different times for those who would like to attend more than two topics.

Tips & Tricks for Managing Your Caseload (NEW Training!)
Joey Chapman, an Education Specialist at the Diagnostic Center North, invites all educators to join in a NEW virtual 90-minute training dedicated to sharing various organizational strategies that help special education teachers manage their caseloads.
- Organize your assessment calendar
- Create a shared team planning document for all IEP meetings
- Create your own "IEP At A Glance"
- Create small groups
To schedule this training, please contact your SELPA to complete the Technical Assistance Form.
DCN currently offers an assortment of virtual trainings for all districts. They are easily accessible to anyone interested, even if hosted by another SELPA. Please contact us for assistance in coordinating a training.
